Jack Cooper from the band, says this of the song:

“Skulking isn't about anything specifically. There are songs on this record that have fairly literal lyrics but this isn't one of them. I did my best not to try my best, in that the lyrics purposefully don't rhyme or make sense. I find most lyrics trite and pointless, either rehashed love metaphor or rock clichés... leather jackets and saying 'baby'. Skulking won't mean much to anyone but it means a lot to me. But musically I think we're taking names on this one. Conan and Neil kill it.”
